After the unsuccessful launch of Payday 3, Starbreeze Studios began to see a significant decline in sales over time, with sales of the game totalling only $7.7 million in FY2024, down from $44.5 million in FY2023.

Here's What We Know

According to Starbreeze's financial report, Payday 3 sales did not meet corporate expectations in its first year, which led to the resignation of the company's CEO in early 2024. Overall, the company recorded a loss of $18.5 million in 2024.

Interestingly, even the older game in the series, Payday 2, earned $3.9 million in 2024 - more than half of what its sequel was able to earn, despite being released 10 years ago. This underscores the serious challenges that PayDay 3 faced.

Although Payday 3 received a major update last year, user feedback remains mixed. Last September, the project director left the game, and one of the lead producers called the game's launch "disastrous".

Despite the difficulties, Starbreeze hopes for a better future. The company announced cooperation with PUBG and Roblox, and also made PayDay 3 free for PlayStation Plus subscribers in February, which may attract new users.

In addition to Payday, Starbreeze is working on a co-operative game in the Dungeons Dragons world, which is undergoing internal testing and has received positive feedback from potential business partners.
