Over-the-air (OTA) software updates are commonplace these days, but when was the last time you heard of a free hardware update? Probably nothing comes to mind, but that's exactly what Polestar 3 owners are in store for.

Here's What We Know

The automaker announced in a press release that the 2026 model year Polestar 3 will feature a new, more powerful Nvidia Drive Agx Orin processor. It will replace the Xavier processor and provide "even more processing power."

But the most interesting thing is different - the company also said that the new processor will be installed on already released cars. The hardware upgrade will be carried out at Polestar's service centres. Car owners will be contacted when the hardware is ready for installation.

In addition to the hardware update announcement, Polestar has announced a new OTA software update for the Model 2, Model 3 and Model 4. The details vary by car, but most are minor stability and usability improvements.

Specifically, the Polestar 3 will get automatic door locking as the driver moves away, wireless Apple CarPlay, and digital key support for Android devices (Samsung and Google Pixel). And Apple device users will now be able to store digital car keys in Apple Wallet.

That means owners will be able to automatically unlock or lock and start their car without taking their iPhone out of their pocket or using the Apple Watch. They will also be able to share car keys with up to five other people via Messages, Mail, AirDrop and WhatsApp. Notably, the shared keys can grant full access or only allow you to open the doors but not drive the car.
