Captain America: Brave New World is approaching the $300 million mark worldwide, but a sharp 68% drop in domestic sales in its second weekend raises questions about whether the film will be able to break even.

Here's What We Know

According to Deadline, the film's production budget was $180 million, but taking into account other expenses, it needs about $425 million to break even.

The film grossed a good $88 million during its first weekend in the US, but on its second weekend it only grossed $28.2 million, which indicates a significant decline in audience interest.

To date, the film has grossed approximately $289.4 million worldwide, of which $141.2 million has been grossed domestically and $148.2 million internationally. In its second weekend, the film earned $63.5 million worldwide.

Although Captain America: Brave New World remains one of the biggest releases of 2025 so far, the second weekend sales drop was expected to be smaller due to the lack of competing blockbusters in the near future. Comscore analyst Paul Dergarabedian noted that such a decline has become the new normal for Marvel films.

However, Deadline suggests that the film will eventually gross about $450 million. Although if it does happen, it will obviously have a hard time, given the interest.
