Prominent game developers Sam Lake and Lucas Pope to be honoured at GDC on 19 March for their impact on the industry

Two outstanding developers will be honoured at the 25th annual Game Developers Choice Awards, which will take place in March during the Game Developers Conference: Sam Lake and Lucas Pope.
Here's What We Know
Sam Lake, a well-known writer and creative director, will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award for his work on such legendary projects as Max Payne, Alan Wake, Quantum Break, and Control.
Lucas Pope, an independent developer, will be honoured with the Pioneer Award for his influence on game stories and mechanics. After all, his game Papers, Please, about a simulation of a checkpoint worker in a dictatorial country, has become one of the most successful indie games in the history of the industry.
The GDCA ceremony will take place on 19 March, right after the Independent Games Festival Awards, and will be broadcast on the official GDC Twitch channel.
We're delighted to recognise Sam Lake and Lucas Pope's contribution to the gaming industry through their work on storytelling and game mechanics
Previous recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award include Todd Howard (Elder Scrolls), John Romero (Doom), and Amy Hennig (Uncharted). Previous winners of the Pioneer Award include Jordan Mechner (Prince of Persia) and Mabel Addis, one of the first video game designers and writers.
