The Netherlands has the first all-electric refrigerated semi-trailer
French manufacturer Lamberet and logistics company Adri Zoon have unveiled the Netherlands' first all-electric refrigerated semi-trailer, which has already received European certification.
Here's What We Know
The new semi-trailer is equipped with a Carrier electric refrigeration unit and an SAF generator axle that generates electricity while travelling. This means that the refrigeration unit runs continuously and the battery does not require manual charging. The semi-trailer is thus fully autonomous and does not create any emissions.
To minimise energy consumption, the semi-trailer has received:
- a well-insulated roof and thickened walls;
- automatic roller shutter doors and an air curtain to keep the cold out;
- a solar panel on the roof to keep the telematics system charged.
The temperature is controlled by Lynx telematics to ensure food remains fresh. In addition to the environmental benefits, the electric semi-trailer saves more than €4,000 in fuel costs annually.
