France is ready to provide nuclear defence for Europe instead of the US

France is ready to use its nuclear deterrent to defend Europe in the event of a US withdrawal from the continent.
Here's What We Know
According to The Telegraph, French fighter jets with nuclear weapons may be deployed in Germany. The leader of the Christian Democratic Union, Friedrich Merz, who is considered a likely next German chancellor, called on Britain and France to expand their nuclear defences to ensure Europe's independence from Donald Trump's policies.
A French official said that the deployment of nuclear-capable aircraft would send a signal to Russia. At the same time, Berlin believes that statements about the possible deployment of French nuclear weapons in Germany are also a way of putting pressure on British Prime Minister Keir Starmer to become more actively involved in European security.

French President Emmanuel Macron discussed this issue with Merz before his trip to the White House, where he plans to present Trump with his European security plan and support for Ukraine.
Speaking alongside Trump at a press conference, Macron stressed that peace "should not be a surrender of Ukraine" and called on Europeans to be more active in ensuring the continent's security.
