Audi has officially announced the next-generation A6 Avant, releasing the first teaser image. The station wagon will make its full debut on 4 March, followed by the sedan.

Here's What We Know

Audi originally planned to rename the new A6 with an internal combustion engine to A7 to differentiate between the electric A6 e-tron and petrol-diesel versions. But récemment the company changed its mind, and the next generation will retain the familiar A6 name.

Although the teaser doesn't reveal any details, there are already leaks online that show the novelty without camouflage. YouTube channel KondorCars has published shorts that show the Audi A6 Avant in the S-Line version, characterised by aggressive bumpers, larger wheels and darkened emblems.

The exterior of the new A6 looks very similar to the Audi A5, but with a taller grille and headlights similar to the RS6 and A7 Sportback. A full-width LED strip is also noticeable on the teaser.

Platform and engines

The new Audi A6 is expected to be built on the PPC (Premium Platform Combustion) platform, which is an updated version of the MLB Evo architecture already used in current models. The engine line-up will include petrol and diesel units with mild hybrid technology.

The Audi A6 Avant will be a direct competitor for the BMW 5 Series Touring and Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate.

More details about the novelty will be revealed on 4 March at the official world premiere.
