The iPhone's RAM requirements are rising again, as AI-related features require a minimum of 8GB of RAM to run efficiently. New rumours have now emerged that the iPhone 17 Pro models will receive 12GB of RAM.

Here's What We Know

Some iPhone models this year will have 12 GB of RAM, which was rumoured earlier. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted an increase in memory for the iPhone 17 Pro line back in August last year after the announcement of Apple Intelligence at WWDC 2024. Now it has become clear that Apple is planning another RAM upgrade for its devices this year.

In an investor report cited by 9to5Mac, analyst Jeff Pu of GFHK Tech Research confirms rumours of 12GB of RAM for the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, as opposed to 8GB in the current models. According to him, the growing demand for AI features is forcing smartphone and PC manufacturers to increase memory capacity.

The increase in RAM will ensure that the iPhone 17 Pro is more compatible with future updates. It may also indicate new Apple Intelligence features that will require more memory and will be available only on these models. For comparison, in 2023, only the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max had 8GB of RAM, while other models had only 6GB.

According to the latest rumours, the entire iPhone 17 lineup will receive significant design changes, including a new camera configuration and video recording features that make the devices even more attractive to vloggers. The new iPhones are expected to be unveiled in September.
