Legendary De Tomaso Pantera 90 Si put up for auction: only 38 such machines
If you've been looking for a reason to own a truly valuable car, here it is - the extremely rare De Tomaso Pantera 90 Si, one of only 38 examples in existence.
Here's What We Know
The De Tomaso Pantera is a unique car in its own right, combining Italian design and American power. It debuted in 1971 with a 330bhp 5.8-litre V8 Ford Cleveland engine and was produced for over 20 years. De Tomaso managed to produce just over 7,000 examples in total before going bankrupt in the early 90s.
The Pantera 90 Si is the final version of the model, which was created by legendary designer Marcello Gandini, known for his work on the Lamborghini Countach. It received an updated 5.0-litre V8 from Ford with electronic fuel injection, revised cylinder heads, new camshafts, valves and pistons. Power was 305 hp, transmission was manual ZF-5.
The truck received a lightweight chassis and modified suspension. Brembo braking system was taken directly from Ferrari F40. The maximum speed reaches 270 km/h.
Initially the company planned to bring Pantera back to life thanks to 90 Si, but produced only 41 copies, of which 3 were destroyed during crash tests. Thirty-eight cars survived, and they all stayed in Europe - no 90 Si officially made it to the US.
But this particular car in Giallo yellow with black leather interior was imported to the States in 2020. It has just 18,763 kilometres of mileage and has undergone a full restoration.
The car will be auctioned at RM Sotheby's in Miami next week. It is estimated to fetch between $150,000 and $200,000.
