US warns Britain of risks if it does not reduce its dependence on US weapons

US officials have advised the UK to review its defence policy and reduce its dependence on US military equipment due to possible changes in Washington's policy.
Here's What We Know
According to The Times, a senior British military officer received a private warning from US officials about the need to "recalibrate" London's approach to arms purchases.
"They were saying we shouldn't be buying American equipment, and there was a feeling in the US administration that they should bill the UK for getting defence equipment on the cheap," a source told The Times.
The reason was the Trump administration's claims that the UK was receiving US military equipment too cheaply, including Trident intercontinental missiles. The United States is allegedly considering imposing restrictions on the supply of weapons to its allies.
The publication also notes that a change in Washington's approach could affect strategic projects, such as the purchase of F-35 fighter jets. The White House may impose restrictions on the supply of equipment from the United States because "missiles and planes won't fly unless you do what you're told."

It is worth noting that the UK remains a top-level ally of the US, and their defence systems are closely integrated.
Against the backdrop of these risks, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced a record increase in the country's defence spending. From 2027, the budget will increase to 2.5% of GDP, and in the future - to 3%.
