Samsung has officially unveiled three new mid-range smartphones: Galaxy A26, Galaxy A36, and Galaxy A56. The two older models received some AI features that were previously available only in flagship devices.

What AI features do Galaxy A36 and A56 have?

Galaxy A36 supports AI Select, Custom Filters, Edit Suggestions, Object Eraser, and Read Aloud. Galaxy A56, thanks to a more powerful processor, additionally received the Best Face feature.

  • AI Select analyses the content on the screen and suggests actions, such as calling a number, creating a GIF, opening a link, or building a route. For example, it can suggest calling a number, recording a GIF of the video you're watching, sending an email to an address, navigating to a location, or visiting a webpage based on the information found on the screen. It's similar to Google Circle to Search, but you can access it from the sidebar.
  • Best Face (exclusive to Galaxy A56) - the smartphone records several frames before pressing the shutter button. If someone has closed eyes or a bad facial expression in the photo, you can select the best shot from the series and replace the facial expression.
  • Custom Filters - this feature allows you to create unique filters in the Camera app. The user can select an image from the gallery, and the system will generate a similar filter, reproducing the colour scheme, contrast, saturation, and other parameters. This allows you to style new photos according to your own preferences.
  • Edit Suggestions - The built-in editor offers automatic photo enhancements. For example, if the photo was taken at an angle, the system can suggest levelling the horizon. You can also adjust the brightness, contrast and other parameters to improve the image quality.
  • Object Eraser - this feature allows you to remove unwanted objects or people from photos. If there are unnecessary elements in the background, the system will use AI to fill in the space so that the picture looks natural.
  • Read Aloud is a built-in voice-activated text playback feature in the Samsung Internet browser. It can read out articles and web pages, which is useful when driving a car or when you can't read the text manually.

Despite these updates, the Galaxy A smartphones have fewer AI features than the flagship Galaxy S and Galaxy Z models due to their less efficient NPUs. Samsung is expected to expand the list of features for these devices over time.
