Frankfurt am Main is trying to regain its status as the main city of the automotive industry and once again become the venue for the IAA (Internationalen Automobil-Ausstellung) International Motor Show in 2027.

Here's What We Know

The IAA Motor Show was held in Frankfurt for decades, but it was moved to Munich in 2021. Now the Frankfurt city authorities, in particular Ober-Burgomaster Mike Josef, have officially announced their desire to bring the show back.

The competition to host the IAA covers not only 2027, but also the following 2029 and 2031. It's all about the biennial exhibition, and the decision on a new host city will be key to the future of the event.

Who decides?

The Association of the German Automotive Industry (VDA) will make the final choice. The decision is expected to be announced by the summer of 2025, but in the meantime, the battle between the cities is only gaining momentum.

The IAA Mobility 2023 exhibition in Munich was visited by more than 500,000 people, including 3,700 journalists from 82 countries. 750 exhibitors from 38 countries were represented and more than 300 world premieres and presentations took place.
