Academy of Motion Picture Arts considers new partners for Oscars broadcast due to Hulu's technical problems during the 97th ceremony

After technical problems during the 97th Academy Awards broadcast on Hulu, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences began looking for new partners for future broadcasts.
Here's What We Know
This year's ceremony, which was broadcast simultaneously on ABC and Hulu for the first time, faced serious technical difficulties. Viewers on Hulu complained of being thrown out of the app and interruptions in the broadcast, which caused them to miss the opening speech by host Conan O'Brien and performances by Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande from Wicked. Although the problem was resolved within the first hour, repeated failures occurred as the ceremony dragged on and Hulu ended the broadcast early.
According to Bloomberg, negotiations between the Academy and Disney ended without a new deal. The current contract, valued at more than $100 million annually, runs until 2028. However, disagreements over the price have led the Academy to consider options for cooperation with other platforms such as Netflix or Prime Video.
While Netflix and Prime Video could provide a wider global reach, technical challenges remain a major obstacle. For example, Netflix also faced glitches during the live streaming of the SAG Awards.
The Academy is looking to find a partner that will ensure stable streaming and expand its global audience. Disney has been a reliable partner for almost 50 years, but the Academy's desire for greater profit and global reach could make a difference.
