Disney cancels Tiana series and changes streaming strategy to focus on feature-length projects

According to THR, Disney has officially cancelled the Tiana series, which was supposed to be a sequel to the cult animated film The Princess and the Frog. This decision is part of a global change in the studio's strategy, which refuses to create content for streaming platforms.
Here's What We Know
The Tiana series was announced back in December 2020 as a musical project for Disney+, where Anika Noni Rose was to return to the role of the first black Disney princess. However, several changes in the creative team and high production costs made the project unviable.
In addition, Disney has also cancelled another untitled feature film that was to be released exclusively on Disney+.
The studio is also working on a short special inspired by the original 2009 animated film. The project is in early development and is being directed by Joyce Sherry and Steve Anderson.
The decision to abandon long-form content for streaming was a result of changes in the world. During the pandemic, Disney invested heavily in streaming content, but now the company is returning its focus to theatrical releases.
An example of the success of this approach was Moana 2, which was originally planned as a series for Disney+ but was reformatted into a feature film and grossed more than $1 billion at the global box office.
