Lockheed Martin, in collaboration with the F-35 Pax River Test Group, has successfully conducted the initial flight test of the Long Range Anti-Ship Missile (LRASM) on the F-35B Lightning II.

Here's What We Know

As part of the F-35 Block 4 upgrade, the AGM-158 strike systems, including the Joint Air-to-Surface Missile (JASSM) and LRASM, are being integrated for external carriage. This allows to increase the range and effectiveness against protected targets.

This test follows the previous LRASM test on the F-35C in September 2024.

Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control vice president John Gill said that these improvements will enhance the F-35's capabilities, at least increasing its range and effectiveness.

Chauncey McIntosh, F-35 programme manager at Lockheed Martin Aeronautics, said the upgrades will ensure the F-35's dominance in air warfare for years to come.
