Sony fires some of the Visual Arts Studio staff who helped develop The Last of Us remake

Sony continues to restructure its gaming division, which has led to a new wave of layoffs in Visual Arts Studio, the team that worked on projects such as The Last of Us remake. This follows the cancellation of several projects and the failure of some releases.
Here's What We Know
Visual Arts Studio, which provides technical and artistic support for PlayStation studios, has informed its laid-off employees that their last day of work will be 7 March. However, the exact number of people laid off is unknown.
This is not the first wave of layoffs at PlayStation: last year, Sony laid off 900 employees worldwide. The reason was the growing costs of game development and unsuccessful attempts to gain a foothold in the service games segment.
The layoffs resulted from the cancellation of several projects, including several service games and the failed release of Concord, which was shut down a few weeks after launch.
Despite the success of Helldivers 2, Sony is facing difficulties in implementing its service games strategy. The company's new CEO Hiroki Totoki said that Sony is reviewing its investments and focusing on long-term sustainability.
Despite the difficulties, Sony is preparing for a big year for PS5 with the release of games such as Death Stranding 2: On the Beach and Ghost of Yotei. However, the company needs to rethink its strategy for service games to avoid similar problems in the future.
