The Samsung Electronics Union, a national union of about 36,000 employees representing nearly 30 per cent of the company's workforce in South Korea, has approved a proposal to raise wages by 5.1 per cent in 2025. This decision avoided strikes that could have affected the company's operations.

Here's What We Know

Last year, the union went on strike for the first time in 55 years, demanding better working conditions and higher wages. However, the protests then were limited to the headquarters in Seoul and did not affect key production facilities. This year, Samsung managed to avoid such situations completely.

In addition to salary increases, employees will receive additional bonuses, including points to buy company products and 30 Samsung shares. The measures were convincing enough for a majority of union members to support the proposal.
