The new Nothing smartphones Phone (3a) and Phone (3a) Pro are already available for pre-order. A video by JerryRigEverything has been posted online, where the blogger tested their durability.

Here's What We Know

Despite the plastic frame, both smartphones did not crack during the bending test.

The test confirmed that the smartphones have a plastic frame, just like their predecessors Phone (2a) and Phone (2a) Plus. Thus, the only Nothing smartphone with a metal frame is the Phone (1). It is hoped that the flagship Nothing Phone (3), which is expected to be released later this year, will return to a metal body.

The screens of both devices are protected by Panda Glass, an alternative to Gorilla Glass 5 used in the Phone (2a). In the scratch test, Panda Glass starts to scratch at level 6 on the Mohs scale, and deeper scratches appear at level 7. When trying to bend the smartphone, the glass did not crack, which indicates its durability, but it is still worth using a case for additional protection.

The Phone (3a) Pro has additional screws hidden under the decorative panels, which can simplify repairs. Overall, the Nothing smartphones have shown good durability, but their reliability in everyday use will become clear over time.

Both smartphones are equipped with a 6.77-inch AMOLED LTPS display with Full HD+ resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, and up to 3000 nits of brightness, protected by Panda Glass. They are powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 processor, with 8/128GB and 12/256GB storage options for the Phone 3a and 12/256GB for the 3a Pro.

The 5000mAh batteries support 50W fast charging, but no wireless charging. Cameras include a 50 MP primary camera with OIS, a 50 MP telephoto lens and an 8 MP ultra-wide-angle camera for the Phone 3a, as well as a 3x zoom periscope lens and a 50 MP front camera for the 3a Pro.

The smartphones support 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4, and NFC, but lack a 3.5mm audio jack. They are IP64 water and dust resistant. The Nothing OS based on Android 15 will receive updates for 3 years and security for 6 years.

These models have a stylish translucent backlit design. Price: Nothing Phone 3a (12/256 GB) - $379, 3a Pro - $459. Pre-orders for the 3a are now open, and the public sale will begin on 11 March 2025. The 3a Pro will go on sale on 25 March.
