UK allows Microsoft to invest $13 billion in OpenAI

The UK regulator CMA has approved Microsoft's $13 billion investment in OpenAI after a 14-month investigation.
Here's What We Know
The regulator decided that the deal did not require further investigation, as neither company would gain more control over the other.
The CMA stressed that Microsoft will not gain full control over OpenAI, and therefore the partnership will not be subject to further investigation under UK law.
Microsoft currently holds a 49% stake in OpenAI, which means that it is a significant shareholder in a company that develops advanced artificial intelligence technologies. Since 2019, Microsoft has already invested more than $14 billion in OpenAI. However, the latest round of investments is currently under investigation by the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC). They are examining whether this deal will lead to Microsoft becoming too influential in the field of artificial intelligence, as it has already happened in the cloud market, where the company holds a dominant position.
Recently, it became known that Microsoft will close Skype in May 2025. Users are offered to switch to Microsoft Teams, which the company has been actively developing since 2017.
