SEGA has become the best game publisher of 2024, beating Capcom, Sony and Square Enix

Aggregator Metacritic has published a list of the best game publishers of 2024.

Here's What We Know

The Metacritic team has derived its own algorithm for determining the best game publishers and it uses the addition of four indicators:

• The average rating of all the publisher's games for the year. The maximum is 150 points (the indicator is multiplied by 1.5);
• the percentage of games with an average rating of 75/100 or higher. Maximum - 100 points (e.g. 80% - 80 points);
• the percentage of games with poor scores (49/100 and below). Maximum - 100 points (e.g. if the percentage of weak projects is 40%, the company gets 60 points);
• the number of excellent releases (from 90/100; at least seven reviews). For each such hit, the publisher was added 5 points.

When summarising the top mobile games were not taken into account, while the performance of games from subsidiaries of major publishers was included in the overall portfolio.

Based on the arithmetic of 2024, the best publisher was Sega, which was ahead of such a giant as Capcom.

The top ten publishers in 2024 (the ranking for 2023 is in brackets):

1. SEGA - 325.5 points (9).
2. Capcom - 323.1.
3. Aksys Games - 318.1 (7).
4. Sony - 314 (13).
5. Focus Entertainment - 309.6 (18).
6. Gamera Games - 303.5 (-).
7. Square Enix - 303.5 (19).
8. Raw Fury - 301.1 (2).
9. Microsoft - 301 (15).
10. Annapurna Interactive - 298.7 (5).

As a reminder, in 2024 Sega released the following games: Metaphor: ReFantazio, Persona 3 Reload, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance and Sonic X Shadow Generations - all of which received the highest ratings and were warmly welcomed by the public.
