Maserati has officially cancelled plans for the MC20 Folgore electric supercar. The MC20 Folgore was originally announced back in 2020 and was supposed to go into production in 2025.

What's known

The MC20 Folgore was supposed to get a 700bhp three-motor powertrain and go on sale after the V6-powered petrol version. But when the MC20 finally hit the streets as the 2022 model range, it was as if the Folgore had been forgotten about. Now the situation has finally been clarified - a Maserati spokesperson has told Car Driver that the project has been closed "due to a perceived lack of commercial interest".

The cancellation of the MC20 Folgore, as well as a cut in funding by parent company Stellantis, casts doubt on Maserati's wider move towards electrification. In 2024, Maserati said the MC20 Folgore would be followed by a large electric SUV in 2027 and an electric successor to the long-running Quattroporte sedan, the launch of which has been delayed to 2028 from the originally planned 2024. However, given the news of the MC20 Folgore, it wouldn't be too surprising if the plans Maserati announced last year have already changed.
