BMW has officially launched series production of the updated iX at its plant in Dingolfing, Germany. BMW's electric flagship, which has been in production since 2021, has already been driven more than 130,000 times worldwide. The updated model in the xDrive60 version has the longest range of any EV model of the BMW Group brands.

Here's What We Know

BMW unveiled the updated iX 2025 in January, focusing on technical improvements rather than radical design changes. The main feature of the iX 2025 is the iX xDrive60 version with a range of 701 kilometres on the WLTP cycle. In its press release, the company even called the iX its most important electric innovation this year. At least until the first model on the Neue Klasse platform arrives at the end of the year.

Where are electric BMWs being produced?

BMW is ramping up production of electric cars in Germany. In addition to the iX, three electric models are assembled at the Dingolfing plant:

  • BMW i7
  • BMW i5
  • BMW i5 Touring

Several other German plants produce other electric models:

  • Munich - i4 (the electric 3 Series will start production here in the future)
  • Regensburg - iX1 and iX2.

What's next.

Despite the success of the iX, BMW is gearing up for a new era with the "Neue Klasse" platform, which will form the basis for the company's future electric cars. In the meantime, the iX remains the brand's premier electric crossover.
