Maxar, one of the leading providers of high-resolution satellite imagery, has restricted free access to its services for Ukraine.

Here's What We Know

According to the official distributor of Maxar in Ukraine, TWIS, authorised Ukrainian users can still order satellite imagery on a commercial basis, including both Ukraine and Russia. At the same time, TWIS notes that it has no information on the supply of Maxar data to Ukraine's security forces as part of the US government's assistance.

The blocking of access was first reported by representatives of the CyberFlour OSINT community, who confirmed that it was a case of closing free access.

The company's decision came as the White House announced that the US would no longer share intelligence with Ukraine.

Maxar's satellite constellation includes 10 satellites, including WorldView-1,2,3 (31-50 cm per pixel resolution), GeoEye-1 (41 cm per pixel) and six WorldView Legion satellites (34 cm per pixel).

At the same time, Maxar is not a monopolist in the satellite imagery sector - similar services are provided by Airbus, ICEYE and other companies. Some countries, including France, have confirmed that they will continue to share intelligence with Ukraine.
