Apple has unveiled a powerful M3 Ultra chip with 80 cores of graphics performance, and the first test results confirm its high potential.

Here's What We Know

In the Geekbench 6 test for the new Mac Studio, the M3 Ultra chip with 80-core GPU scored 259,668 points in the Metal test. This is 16% more than the M2 Ultra with a 76-core GPU, which scored 222,582 points in the previous generation of Mac Studio. If the result is accurate, this will make the M3 Ultra the most powerful graphics chip Apple has ever produced.

For comparison, in the 16-inch MacBook Pro, the most powerful M4 Max with a 40-core GPU averages 187,460 points in the Metal test. This means that the M3 Ultra can be up to 38% faster than the M4 Max.

At the same time, some other Geekbench 6 benchmarks for the M3 Ultra with an 80-core GPU show much lower scores, in the range of 195,000. These results are likely to be inaccurate.

In terms of processor performance, it was previously reported that the M3 Ultra is 10% faster than the fastest M4 Max.

The new Mac Studio is already available for pre-order in Apple's online store and will go on sale on 12 March. Pricing in the US starts at $1,999 for the M4 Max version and $3,999 for the M3 Ultra.

Apple has recently introduced the iPad (11th generation) with the A16 chip and 128 GB of basic memory. The new iPad retains the familiar design, size, weight, and colour options of the previous iPad (10th generation). However, the display is now slightly larger - 11 inches instead of 10.9, although the resolution and brightness remain unchanged.
