The Volkswagen ID.1 compact electric car will be produced in Portugal

Just a few days after the presentation of the ID.EVERY1 concept, Volkswagen has announced that the production version of the model will roll off the assembly line in Portugal. Production is due to start in 2027.
Here's What We Know
The head of the VW brand Thomas Schäfer told reporters that the future electric car will be produced at the Volkswagen plant in Palmela, Portugal. The VW T-Roc is currently being produced there.
The reason the company didn't choose Germany is simple: it would have been too expensive. And since the ID.1 will only sell for "around" 20,000 euros, the carmaker has to be very frugal. That's why even the VW ID.2all, which is expected in 2026 with a starting price of 25,000 euros, will be produced in Spain.

What will the VW ID.Every1 be like?
- Engine power: 70 kW
- Top speed: 130 kilometres per hour
- Range (WLTP): At least 250 kilometres
- Platform: Volkswagen's own platform
Will there be Cupra and Skoda versions?
At the moment, Cupra and Skoda have no plans for their own versions of the ID.1 model. However, VW's technical chief Kai Grünitz recently said that such a decision could be made after 2027 if sales of the relatively inexpensive electric car go up.
