John Wick 5 is in the early stages of development, but the return of the legendary hitman to the screens is still in question

The John Wick franchise continues to expand, and Lionsgate has confirmed the development of the fifth instalment. However, the return of the legendary killer to the screens is still in question.
Here's What We Know
Talks about the fifth part started back in 2023 after the success of John Wick: Chapter 4, which grossed $440 million at the global box office. Lionsgate confirmed that the new film is at an early stage of development. However, according to producer Basil Ivanik, the story for the sequel is not yet ready:
"We want to create something organic and not disappoint the fans. But until we find the right story, the film will remain at the discussion stage."
In addition, Stahelski is currently focused on working on the Highlander remake, which will begin filming in 2025. This means that the production of John Wick 5 may start no earlier than 2026.
One of the main questions is whether Keanu Reeves will appear in the new film. The actor himself has previously stated: "You know the character is dead."
However, Lionsgate hints that the story of John Wick is not over yet. Jennifer Brown, executive vice president of Lionsgate, said:
"We all look forward to seeing how this story unfolds. John Wick may be dead, but it's not over yet."
While fans are waiting for the fifth instalment, the franchise is actively expanding. The Ballerina spin-off starring Ana de Armas will be released in cinemas on 6 June 2025. The film will take place between the third and fourth parts of the series.
