Developer of the popular poker game Balatro bans publishing AI artwork on subreddit

A small scandal erupted in the Balatro community over the use of artwork generated by artificial intelligence, forcing the developer LocalThunk to express its position: it does not support this practice and believes that it harms artists.
Here's What We Know
The situation started when a former moderator of the Balatro subreddit known as DrTankHead announced that AI art would not be banned if it was properly labelled. This caused outrage among community members, who believe that such a stance undermines the efforts of real artists. In response, LocalThunk released a statement that clearly stated:
"I do not support AI-generated 'art'. I don't use it in my game because I believe it does real harm to artists."
It has also been confirmed that AI art will no longer be allowed on the Balatro subreddit and the rules will be updated accordingly.
Playstack's Communications Director Wout van Halderen supported LocalThunk's position and added that the company does not support the use of AI art. He also noted that the rules should have been clearer, as previously there was a ban on "unlabelled AI content" that could be misinterpreted.
