The Ukrainian company Aerobavovna, together with its partners, is working to create a new complex to combat Russian kamikaze drones: aircraft-type FPV interceptor balloons.

Here's What We Know

The balloon is equipped with a thermal imaging camera that can detect enemy drones. In the event of a threat, the interceptor drone is dropped from its mount on the balloon, after which it is guided to the target by the operator. The technical characteristics of the system and the drones themselves are not disclosed.

For more than a year, Ukraine's military units have been actively using balloons as aerial platforms to ensure stable communication and monitoring. They work as repeaters, improving the quality of communication in combat conditions.

The developers note that the balloons are tested in difficult weather conditions to ensure their effectiveness in any situation. They can climb to an altitude of up to 800 metres, carry a payload of up to 10 kg and perform not only communication, but also surveillance, electronic warfare and interception of enemy drones.
