ChatGPT is now available as the default assistant on Android

The latest beta version of ChatGPT for Android has made a significant improvement by providing the option to set the app as the default assistant on devices.
Here's What We Know
The new ChatGPT beta update version v1.2025.070 allows Android users to set it as the default assistant app. This update makes it possible to launch ChatGPT using buttons and gestures previously used to invoke other assistants such as Gemini. For example, users can activate ChatGPT by long-pressing the home button, swiping up from the corner of the screen, or holding down the power button if this setting is enabled.

Calling ChatGPT triggers voice mode, which is still limited in functionality compared to competitors such as Perplexity AI. Also, the voice command activation feature remains unavailable due to API limitations, available only to pre-installed apps. Despite this, the update makes it much easier for Android users to access ChatGPT.
