Starting 28 March, Amazon Echo devices will transmit voice requests to the cloud for processing

Starting from 28 March 2025, Amazon Echo devices that could previously process Alexa requests directly on the device itself will no longer support this feature.
Here's What We Know
From now on, voice recordings will be automatically sent to the cloud for processing. This applies to the Echo Dot (4th generation), Echo Show 10, and Echo Show 15. These devices use Alexa to control various functions such as smart home, reminders, web search, and other features.

The changes were confirmed by Amazon representatives after a Reddit user shared an email from the company. The letter states that the settings of users who have selected the "Do not send voice recordings" option will automatically change to "Do not store recordings". This means that after 28 March, voice recordings will be sent to the cloud for processing, and after Alexa's request is fulfilled, they will be deleted. All previously saved recordings will also be deleted.
This decision was made after the launch of a new version of Alexa+ with generative artificial intelligence features. During the presentation of Alexa+ in February, the company said that these new features would be rolled out in March.
Amazon explained that in order to support the new Alexa features that require more power, it will no longer be possible to process requests directly on the device.
Recently, Amazon has significantly updated its Alexa voice assistant by integrating generative AI into the programme.
