Apple also considered making the iPhone 17 Air the first fully wireless smartphone by ditching USB-C and relying on MagSafe. However, in the end, the company decided to keep the charging port.

Here's What We Know

According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the iPhone 17 Air will receive some features from the iPhone 16 Pro, including ProMotion and Camera Control. While support for ProMotion in all iPhone 17 models was expected, Camera Control in the iPhone 17 Air was still in question. Now, it looks like this feature will be available.

The iPhone 17 Air is expected to be the thinnest iPhone ever, with a thickness of only 5.5 mm. The price of the new product, according to preliminary data, will be about $900. However, to achieve such a thickness, Apple had to make compromises: the smartphone will have only one speaker and one camera module, while the iPhone 16 Plus had two.

Despite this, the company did not want to sacrifice the battery life of the device. A thinner body means a smaller battery, which usually affects the operating time. To solve this problem, Apple redesigned the display, silicon, and software components, making the device more energy efficient.

Another feature of the iPhone 17 Air will be the new C1 5G modem, the first chip from Apple that debuted in the iPhone 16e. However, the smartphone will not support mmWave 5G, although Apple is positioning it as a "superfast 5G" device.

This is the second time rumours of a $900 starting price have been confirmed. Earlier, The Wall Street Journal reported similar information.
