All four iPhone 17 models will feature Apple's Wi-Fi 7 chip, according to analyst Jeff Pu. In a study published on Monday, 17 March 2025, Pu noted that the chip design was completed in the first half of 2024.

Here's What We Know

The analyst expects the chip to be introduced in the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max later this year.

This is not a big surprise, as the entire iPhone 16 line already supports Wi-Fi 7. However, it is important to note that the chip will be developed by Apple itself. Earlier in February, the company introduced its own C1 modem in the iPhone 16e to connect to 5G and LTE mobile networks.

Now, Apple has probably decided to develop Wi-Fi chips on its own, which will reduce, and eventually eliminate, its dependence on external suppliers such as Qualcomm and Broadcom.

Wi-Fi 7 allows data to be transmitted simultaneously over three frequency bands: 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz. This provides faster speeds, lower latency, and a more stable connection when using a compatible router.

Wi-Fi 7 can deliver peak data speeds of over 40Gbps, which is four times faster than Wi-Fi 6E.

The presentation of all four iPhone 17 models is expected in six months.

Insiders recently reported that Apple has abandoned a prototype of a large, ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air with a 6.9-inch screen due to concerns that it could be prone to bending.
