US Army demonstrates upgraded M1A2 SEPv3 Abrams tanks in exercises with Saudi Arabia

The US Army has released new footage of live fire at the squad and platoon level during Exercise Friendship 25. The event took place in the area of responsibility of the US Central Command and was aimed at improving interoperability between US ground forces and the Royal Saudi Army.
Here's What We Know
The exercise involved modernised M1A2 SEPv3 Abrams main battle tanks. The tankers of the 278th Armoured Cavalry Regiment demonstrated their improved effectiveness in combat manoeuvres.
Footage released by the US Department of Defence captured the training at an undisclosed location on 12 February 2025. The exercise is part of an ongoing effort to strengthen military cooperation between the United States and Saudi Arabia to ensure that both sides remain prepared for possible threats in the region.

The M1A2 SEPv3 tanks have received upgrades to their survivability, firepower and combat network systems. Improved armour enhances the ability to counter modern anti-tank threats, and an advanced fire control system allows the use of programmable airburst projectiles, making them more effective against a variety of targets.
The main commander's and gunner's sights have also been updated, which significantly improves enemy detection and destruction. An improved power supply system allows the tank to remain combat-ready in long missions, while an auxiliary power supply reduces fuel consumption and heat footprint.
The United States continues to modernise its armoured vehicle fleet, and the deployment of the M1A2 SEPv3 as part of Friendship 25 underscores the growing military partnership between Washington and Riyadh.
