According to information from Chinese insider Digital Chat Station, Sony is actively working on a new 200-megapixel sensor for the main cameras of flagship smartphones that will be released in late 2025.

Here's What We Know

This sensor will be larger than Samsung's existing 1/1.3-inch ISOCELL HP2 used in the Galaxy S25 Ultra. The larger size of Sony's sensor will provide improved light capture capabilities, which could make it competitive or even superior to Samsung's solutions.

The new sensor will be aimed at smartphones running on MediaTek Dimensity 9500 or Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chipsets. Although details about the characteristics of the sensor are not yet available, its development demonstrates Sony's commitment to compete with Samsung in the high-end camera segment.
