SK Hynix has unveiled a new generation of 12-layer HBM4 and HBM3E high-speed memory

At NVIDIA's GTC 2025 conference, SK Hynix unveiled prototypes of HBM4 memory, which was another blow to Samsung.
Here's What We Know
SK Hynix already dominates the HBM3E market, supplying the bulk of this memory to NVIDIA, while Samsung has not yet been able to get its HBM3E modules approved. This has resulted in significant financial losses for Samsung, which is now focusing on HBM4 development to avoid repeating past mistakes.
SK Hynix has also demonstrated 12-layer HBM3E modules, which are the most advanced on the market. The company plans to start mass production of HBM4 in the second half of 2025, which could further strengthen its position. Samsung, for its part, has been preparing for HBM4 production, aiming to complete it in the first half of the year, 6 months ahead of schedule.
