Owners of Tesla electric pickup trucks will have to visit service centres - the company announced a large-scale recall due to a manufacturing defect that cannot be fixed by a remote software update.

Here's What We Know

Tesla is recalling 46,096 Cybertruck pickup trucks due to a problem with body pillar trim pieces that can fall off while driving due to airflow and vibrations. The recall applies to all Cybertruck manufactured from 13 November 2023 to 27 February 2025.

The problem is related to a stainless steel panel extending from the base of the windscreen to the tailgate along the roof arch above the windows. According to Tesla, this part is attached to the power components with an adhesive that loses its properties over time when exposed to the environment.

To fix the defect, the company:

  • Will replace the problematic adhesive with a more resistant one;
  • Will weld an additional stud to the steel panel, which will be secured to the vehicle structure with a threaded connection.

As of 18 March 2025, cars in production have yet to receive the fix. Tesla plans to make process corrections from around 21 March 2025. All pickup trucks manufactured using the old method but not yet delivered to customers will be modified before delivery.

This is the eighth Tesla Cybertruck recall since deliveries began in 2023. Most have been software-related and were resolved with a simple over-the-air firmware update. However, there have been some more serious ones, including the cargo area trim falling off and loss of power.
