TikTok now helps in finding missing children with AMBER Alerts system

TikTok, the social network known for its popular videos, has announced a partnership with the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) to integrate AMBER Alerts.
Here's What We Know
This US-based system is used to alert the public about child abduction cases. Now that TikTok has around 170 million active users in the US, the platform plans to utilise its wide audience to help find missing children.

From August to December 2024, the AMBER Alerts pilot in Texas showed impressive results: alerts were viewed more than 20 million times, leading to 2.5 million visits to the NCMEC website. TikTok is now expanding the feature to the entire United States. When an alert is released, it will appear in the "For You" feed of users located in the relevant region.
An NCMEC spokesperson noted that every second counts when searching for missing children, and TikTok can be a powerful tool to raise awareness. Previously, similar features have already been introduced on other platforms such as Facebook and Instagram.
