The Rapid Reaction Force, which is opposed to the pro-government forces, conducted an air strike on a Sudanese Su-24M bomber. The footage was posted on the paramilitary group's social media.

Here's What We Know

The attack took place at the Wadi Seidna airbase, located in the north of the Khartoum metropolitan area. The strike was carried out with an adjusted aerial bomb from an unknown drone that performed objective control and adjusted fire. Presumably, it was a strike version of the Chinese FH-95 drone. As a result of three hits, the aircraft was completely destroyed. Judging by the fuel fire, the bomber was refuelled, indicating the loss of a combat unit.

This is a serious blow to the Sudanese government forces, as the country has a limited fleet of bombers. Between 2013 and 2016, it received at least eight Su-24Ms from Belarus, although some reports suggest the number could have been as high as 12. Satellite imagery from December 2024 showed at least four Su-24Ms based at Wadi Seydna, along with MiG-29s and other aircraft. Additional aircraft may be housed in hangars, but there is no accurate data.

Due to the lack of bombers, the Sudanese army uses other aircraft for strikes. In September 2024, government forces used an Il-76 military transport aircraft as a makeshift bomber to drop FAB-250/FAB-500s. Such methods are explained by the lack of powerful high-altitude air defence capabilities in the country.
