South of Midnight's scriptwriter assures that the game avoids the stereotypical plot about a "chosen hero" who has to save everyone

During the Future Games Show Spring Showcase - Live from GDC, Compulsion Games writer Zaire Lanier shared new details about the protagonist of South of Midnight, Hazel. According to GamesRadar, Lanier emphasised that the game avoids the "chosen hero" storyline, instead presenting Hazel as an ordinary girl going through a difficult stage of growing up.
Here's What We Know
South of Midnight focuses on the search for her mother, and although Hazel is not born with supernatural powers, she unexpectedly receives a gift when she is chosen by the earth itself. According to Lanier, Weavers are special people who are empowered by the elements in times of great need. For Hazel, this turning point was chasing her mother's trailer during a hurricane.
As a weaver, she gains the ability to see the "great fabric of the universe" and manipulate its threads to perform magical acts. However, the weavers are not omnipotent - they cannot save people from trauma, but they can help them to understand and accept their experiences.
Where To Play
South of Midnight will be available on PC and Xbox Series.
When We Can Expect It
The game will be released on 8 April.
