Czech Republic tests new amphibious vehicle KALAN to replace Soviet PTS

Czech rescuers have been testing a new amphibious vehicle, KALAN, which could become an alternative to the Soviet PTS (medium-sized floating transport vehicle). The vehicle is designed for rescue operations, cargo and people transportation, and can also be equipped with military modules.
Here's What We Know
The Czech Fire and Rescue Service has published a video of KALAN tests, where it was compared with the Czech modification of the Soviet PTS-M, codenamed PTS-10. The development is funded under the TREND programme of the Czech Technology Agency.
The KALAN is reportedly equipped with a Tatra V12 diesel engine and can reach speeds of up to 60 km/h on roads and 12 km/h on water. Its length is 10.2 m, width is 3.3 m, height is 3.07 m, weight is 20 tonnes, and the maximum payload is 9 tonnes.
It is also reported that the vehicle has a hook loader, container fastening system, winch, hydraulic boom and anchor elements. It is also planned to install military modules, including MLRS and air defence systems.
The KALAN trials are particularly relevant for the Czech Republic, which regularly suffers from floods. In September 2024, the country deployed army aviation and engineering units to overcome the consequences of the disaster, while Poland used PTS-M for evacuation and rescue operations.
