The German Parliament's Budget Committee has approved a new long-term military assistance package for Ukraine worth more than €11 billion. This includes €3 billion for 2025, bringing the total military aid budget to €7 billion.

Here's What We Know

The new aid package was approved following the passage of a historic bill that allows for up to €1 trillion in investments in Germany's military and infrastructure, including defence spending above the debt limit. Part of the funding, amounting to €8.3 billion, is aimed at helping Ukraine until 2029.

In particular, it is reported that the new funds will be used to purchase anti-aircraft missiles for the IRIS-T SLM and Patriot systems, artillery ammunition, drones, and armoured vehicles. It is also planned to purchase €3 billion worth of ammunition for air defence, as well as €900 million for drones, some of which will be delivered in 2025.

Germany, in particular, believes that US support is not guaranteed, so European countries should assume most of the obligations.

As a reminder, in February 2025, it was announced that Rheinmetall's 155 mm shell production plant in Ukraine would start operating in 2026. When it reaches full capacity, the plant will be able to produce six-digit numbers of finished rounds per year.
