New trailer for ARK: Aquatica, the surprise expansion for ARK: Survival Evolved, caused a negative reaction after it became known that it was completely created using artificial intelligence.

Here's What We Know

Viewers quickly noticed the unnatural AI-generated visuals, which led to criticism on social media and forced Snail Games to take the video down from YouTube. At the GDC conference, chief designer Matt Kohl stated that the development team had nothing to do with the trailer, explaining that the marketing department used static images of internal assets for AI animation. He assured fans that AI tools were not used in the development of the game itself.

This controversy adds to the uncertainty surrounding Aquatica, especially considering that ARK: Survival Ascended, an updated version of Survival Evolved, was already released over a year ago but did not gain much popularity.

Currently, Survival Evolved has 24 thousand active players on Steam, while Survival Ascended has only 18 thousand. This raises questions about the feasibility of using artificial intelligence for advertising content and whether it is right for the studio to rely on such technology.
