Snow White remake grossed $87 million in its first weekend, but it's still a long way from profit

The remake of Disney's classic Snow White has launched at the box office with a result that suggests the princess is in commercial hibernation.
Here's What We Know
The film grossed $43 million in the US domestic market in its first weekend, which is behind even 2019's Dumbo with $45 million.
For comparison, 2019's The Lion King, 2017's Beauty and the Beast and 2016's The Jungle Book all started with over $100 million.
Snow White's international haul added another $44.3 million, bringing its total to $87.3 million. With a budget of over $250 million, not including marketing costs, the film will have to work hard to break even.
However, it's not all bad. For example, the prequel Mufasa: The Lion King started with $35.4 million, but later grossed over $717 million worldwide. So perhaps Snow White can still at least recoup its costs.
