Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 will be without a mini-map but with a compass: developers focus on exploration

The developers of the upcoming role-playing game Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 decided not to add a mini-map, emphasising the importance of exploring the world on your own. Instead, players will receive a compass for orientation.
Here's What We Know
Francois Meurisse, COO of Sandfall Interactive, explained that the presence of a mini-map can make players rely on it too much, losing the sense of discovery.
In addition, the absence of a mini-map is justified by the storyline: all previous expeditions failed, so no one returned to create a map.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a turn-based RPG with real-time combat elements, set in a world inspired by the French Belle Epoque. Players will join the 33rd Expedition to stop the Artist, who annually paints a number on a monolith, dooming people of the right age to disappear.
The game will be released on 24 April 2025 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
