Sony Pictures' plans for the Street Fighter film adaptation have taken an unexpected turn: the film has disappeared from the release schedule. Recently, Kitao Sakurai was announced as the new director of the project, but it seems that the plans for the film's release in March 2026 are no longer relevant.

Here's What We Know

So far, there is no clear explanation for this decision. However, we can assume that the film needs more time for development, as the previously planned release date of 20 March 2026 is less than a year away, and we still don't know the cast of actors and only at the beginning of the year did the adaptation of the cult fighting game series get a new director.

The last time we saw Street Fighter on the big screen was in 1994, in a film adaptation starring Jean-Claude Van Damme. And we definitely won't be able to see an adaptation until 2027, so for now, all we can do is play the games and watch the 1994 film.
