The showrunners of The Last of Us, Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, decided to change the way Abby is introduced in season two to prevent possible spoilers between seasons. They decided to give the audience the necessary context about Abby right at the beginning of the season.

The news contains spoilers for The Last of Us Part II

Here's What We Know

In The Last of Us Part II, players control Abby for a while at the beginning to get to know her and set the stage for future events.

However, in the television format, the lack of interactivity requires different approaches to establish a connection between the audience and the character. Druckmann explained that without the ability to play as Abby, it was necessary to use other tools to provide context, which led to the decision to change the way information about her was presented.

In addition, sticking to the original game timeline could have resulted in viewers waiting too long to get important information about Abby, which would have increased the risk of spoilers between seasons. Therefore, the series creators decided to provide this context at the beginning of the second season.

It is worth noting that in the adaptation of the series, the role of Abby is played by Kaitlyn Dever. The creators decided not to focus on the physical resemblance to the game character, focusing more on the dramatic component and the inner world of the heroine.

The premiere of the second season of The Last of Us is scheduled for 13 April 2025 on HBO and Max.
