Vehicles on the VW MQB platform will receive new ADAS systems level 2+

Volkswagen Group, Valeo and Mobileye have joined forces to develop driver assistance systems (ADAS) for future models on the MQB platform. This will enable the Group's vehicles to move to SAE driving automation level 2+, which implies "enhanced partially automated driving".
Here's What We Know
The new ADAS systems will arrive in the coming years and will have the following features:
- Hands-free mode on certain sections of motorways
- Traffic jam assistant - the car maintains speed and distance on its own
- Blind spot monitoring and hazard detection
- Automatic parking and driver fatigue monitoring
- 360-degree collision hazard monitoring
- Integration of augmented reality displays
Volkswagen says this co-operation simplifies procurement, reduces costs and increases development efficiency.
Improved assistance systems
The new ADAS suite includes all-round visibility from multiple cameras and radars, as well as software-defined functions. Valeo provides the ECU, sensors and parking sensors, while Mobileye contributes to the Surround ADAS platform, including the EyeQ6 High processor and mapping technologies. For the first time, these elements are integrated into a single system, replacing multiple ECUs with a centralised unit. This improves efficiency, system performance and allows for wireless updates.
According to Volkswagen, the new ADAS will not only improve the safety of MQB models, but will also meet future standards for partially automated driving. Mobileye, on the other hand, believes that this solution paves the way for a new generation of driver assistance technologies.
