The Xiaomi SU7 electric sedan has been awarded five stars in China's C-NCAP crash test, achieving the highest score of any car tested under the 2024 safety standards.

Here's What We Know

The crash test was conducted by the China Automotive Technology and Research Centre (CATARC) using the C-NCAP methodology, where cars are rated on a scale of 0 to 100% and then convert the results into a star rating. The tests involve randomly purchased cars.

The sample that passed the safety tests is the Xiaomi SU7 Max with all-wheel drive and Xiaomi Pilot Max driving assistance system. It costs from 299,900 yuan ($41,300) in China.

The SU7 Max received a 93.5 per cent overall rating, 8.7 per cent above the average C-NCAP 2024 score. Its performance in the active safety category was particularly outstanding at 95.25 per cent, including near-maximum scores for Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) and lighting efficiency.

Passenger crash protection was rated at 94.31% and pedestrian and cyclist safety at 90.42% (13.14% above average). This is one of the best scores of any car tested by C-NCAP in 2024.

Xiaomi SU7

The SU7 is Xiaomi's first production car, which debuted in the Chinese market in March 2024. The model has proven popular, with 186,112 units already sold so far. Demand exceeds supply so much that the waiting time for the new SU7 reaches 11 months.
