Baykar has conducted test launches of a new air-to-surface missile IHA-122, developed by Roketsan. The tests took place on 25 and 27 March.

Here's What We Know

During the first launch, the Bayraktar TB3 drone took off from Dalaman Airport at an altitude of 6.7 km and fired a missile that hit a target at sea at a distance of more than 50 km. The second launch took place from an altitude of 91 m, with a range of 20 km. The target was illuminated with a laser by the Bayraktar TB2.

The IHA-122 missile is based on the 122mm TRG-122, but has modified stabilisers and steering gear for air launch. It supports laser, TV and combined guidance using GPS and inertial systems.

The Bayraktar TB3 is designed for deck-based deployment, in particular on the Anadolu amphibious assault ship. It has larger dimensions, folding wings and can carry up to 280 kg of weapons. Its maximum speed is 300 km/h, and the declared flight duration exceeds 50 hours.

In short, Anadolu plans to deploy 30 to 40 of these drones, and the ship's command centre will allow it to control at least 10 drones at a time.
