Samsung has patented a new device with 360-degree folding, which allows the screen to bend both inwards and outwards.

Here's What We Know

This design eliminates the need for a separate external screen, while maintaining functionality even when folded. The patent images show that even when folded, the part of the display below the cameras remains open.

Here's How It Works

The main feature of this device is the use of special layers that support the flexible screen. These layers consist of polymeric materials and a flexible adhesive that helps the screen to remain strong and flexible at the same time. All this allows the screen to bend without damage.

In addition, the device has special folding mechanisms that allow the screen to be bent both inwards and outwards. This is made possible thanks to special plates and a design that ensures the flexibility of the screen in both directions.

This patent was a logical extension of Samsung's previous developments. In 2023, the company demonstrated the "Flex In Out" concept, although there is no official news about the launch of this device into mass production yet.

Some manufacturers, such as Huawei, offer devices with external folding, when the screen wraps around the back of the device. This approach looks more stylish and futuristic, but has serious limitations in terms of durability, as part of the screen always remains open.
